We may not be able to understand our capabilities unless we test ourselves
Why does one needs to understand oneself? yet the more, understand one's capabilities?
This question has to be answered first before one can test oneself because the later will not happen if there is no passion to understand oneself.Assuming everyone agrees that one needs to understand one's capabilities, the next question is why does one needs to test oneself?
Why can't someone else who specialize in this area test one's capabilities? The answer is plain and simple. Nobody understands someone better than what one knows of oneself. Testing oneself to understand one's capabilities is not judged by the way one can memorize one's lessons, nor how one performs in the exams.
It is neither judged by the way how well one pretends to put a smile on one's face when there is a hole inside. But it is a test of the real I. It is the test which determines how one can withstand the test of time, the acid test or whatever test we can think of.
In this world of allusion and confusion, one tends to underestimate the importance of oneself. The individual self does not seem to have a place in the social strata, where success is judged by how well the party, organization or corporation perform as a whole. It is no wonder why one tends to think of oneself as having that capability, which in fact is the capability of the bigger I(the corporation).
While a man of good virtue will never be satisfied by just being there in the same boat. He will come forward to the rudder(as the sailor does) to fight against the strong winds taking all the risk of being hijacked by pirates or hitting an iceberg with no one beside him, no one to respond to his S.O.S. He dares to carry on under the mercy of fate alone whether he reach the other shore or get lost in the sea, it is he alone who will understand his capabilities.

Be at peace
Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow; the same everlasting Father who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow and every day. Either He will shield you from your suffering or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, then, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.—St. Francis de Sales

My God is
God is bigger than the boogie man
He's bigger than Godzilla, or the monsters on TV
Oh, God is bigger than the boogie man
And He's watching out for you and me.

God alone
Some thoughts on Psalm 127
Verse 1
It tells us that it is God alone who build the house.
It tells us that it is God alone who is the architect of the house.
It tells us that it is God alone who is the foundation of the house.
But not the skill, the strength, the labor force and the technology, It is God alone.
It reminds us that it is God alone who guards the city.
It reminds us that it is God alone who is our security.
It reminds us that it is God alone who is our protector.
But not the watchman nor the weapons, it is God alone.
Verse 2
True rest and satisfaction comes from the Lord.
Not from the luxury of Life.
Not from the greed of life.
But from God alone.
Verse 3-5
It is God alone who gives children.
The chain of generation is the handy work of God alone.
Whatever we are today and whatever we have today.
The house where we live in, the food that we eat, the safety
and security we enjoy, the joy which comes from children are
from God alone.
Let us worship this God alone.

I Have a dream
Rhetorical devices in King’s “I have a dream”
• Martin Luther King Jr. (January 15,1929 – April 4, 1968)
• Baptist Minister and civil right activist
• Speech delivered on August 28, 1963
• Over 250,000 civil right supporters attended the meeting
• Inspired, empowered and encouraged the people
Anaphora
• One hundred years later 4
But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languishing in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. So we have come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.
• Now is the time 4
Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quick sands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children.
• We cannot be satisfied 6
We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied, as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as the Negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their selfhood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating "For Whites Only". We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.
• I have a dream 8
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
• With this faith 3
With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.
• Let freedom ring 10
from every mountainside, let freedom ring." So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania! Let freedom ring from the snowcapped Rockies of Colorado! Let freedom ring from the curvaceous peaks of California! But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia! Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee! Let freedom ring from every hill and every molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring.
• Free at last 3
"Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"
Allusion
• Five Score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
• An allusion to Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address on Nov 19, 1863
• King alludes to Psalm 30:5 “Weeping may endure for a night , but joy comes in the morning.”
• It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
• "No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream." Allusion to Amos 5:24
• I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted….An allusion to Isaiah 40:4-5.
Metaphor
• Beacon light of hope
• Seared in the flames of withering injustice
• Long night of their captivity
• Manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination
• Lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity
• Bank of justice
• Great vaults of opportunity
• Tranquilizing drug of gradualism
• Valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice
• Quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood
• Bright day of Justice
• Thirst for freedom
• Cup of bitterness and hatred
• High plane of dignity and discipline
• Battered by the storms of persecutions
• Winds of Police brutality
• Valley of despair
• Table of brotherhood
• Hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope
Alliteration
• Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice.
• This sweltering summer of the Negro’s legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality.
• The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the negro community must not lead us to a distrust of white people…
• I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations.
Others
• Simile : Justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream.
• Litotes : I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations.
• Asyndeton : Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities.
• Antithesis : Where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
Rhetorical devices
1. Anaphora
2. Allusion
3. Metaphor
4. Alliteration
5. Simile
6. Litotes
7. Asyndeton
8. Antithesis

[IF]
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!
Rudyard Kipling

The Road not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think I know
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
And miles to go before I sleep.

Love
Love is like a lump of gold,
Hard to get, and hard to hold.
Of all the girls I've ever met,
You're the one I can't forget.
I do believe that God above,
Created you for me to love.
He chose you from all the rest,
Because he knew I would love you best.
